Compiled by Bertha Taft Keith, of Spokane, Wash From old records, family correspondence and original research, largely unpublished. Pg 11 100. CHRISTOPHER NEWBERT (old spelling was Newbit) born in Germany, perhaps Bavaria, was one of the early settlers of Waldoboro, Maine. In the 1740's, 50 more families emigrated from various German provinces to the New World. Christopher Newbert came with his wife and 4 small children. Date of birth in Germany, name of wife, and record of Christopher's death in Maine not found. According to Miller's "History of Waldoboro:, Christopher was selectman in 1773. His farm was about 1 mi from Waldoboro, on the east side of the Medomac River, on the road to Friendship. When the old German meeting-house was erected about 1770, Christipher donated the lot at Meeting House Cove, at the point where there was a ferry across the river. In 1795, the church was moved to its present location on the west side of the river. Many bodies were exhumed from the burying-ground which surrounded the first church site, but others were left to sleep in the original cemetery. This was located on Christopher's farm, and it is probably that Christopher rests in the Old Burying-Ground. CHILDREN: 101.
